the lizard
The Lizard
He had travelled long distances before
going back to where he was a child
Stopped out what had been his parents
house, someone else lived in their flat
perhaps a child sleeps in his bed and
dream his dreams.
He was overwhelmed by a sudden
sense of loss because his childhood had
been hard, and there is no bed but
a sleeping bag
He had, as an adult, constructed his own
childhood, one he came to believe
and told other people over and over again
The lizard, on his back, was set free
to glue itself on someone else's back
