The Jack Benny Show
Some years ago, when TV was new,
My family had become addicted to,
(With a fervor you would not blieve)
Radio programs on Sunday eve.
Jack Benny's Show was one of these,
He moved to TV with great ease.
Our Sundays now were twice as funny
And we got much more for our money.
It was not what he said, but how he said it,
And the TV media gave full credit
To his own special comic flair,
With timing no one else would dare.
Jack didn't tell us dirty jokes,
Nor did he lampoon other folks.
He portrayed himself to be a miser,
Staying thirty-nine, never growing wiser.
Rochester,Dennis and Mary teased him,
But it was his money that really pleased him.
He kept it in a dungeon vault,
And played the miser to a fault.
The TV comics of today
Think filthy jokes are the only way.
Nothing's taboo if it gets a laugh.
Jack was funnier by ten and a half.
