On the twenty fourth of February in twenty twenty two Russia invaded Ukraine and fierce fighting did ensue Vladimir Putin it seems, wants to restore the iron curtain And sadly he will succeed, of that it looks certain. Tanks and missiles, the Russians used in their attack But against Putins thugs, brave Ukrainians are fighting back Vladimir Putin is unhinged and he Is losing his sanity Claiming the Ukraine is a threat, to Russian security. He's made threats to the west, if they come to Ukraines aid Does he honestly think that western powers are afraid Unfortunately the Ukraine is not part of the Nato alliance So the west introduced, heavy sanctions in defiance. Hitting Russia with severe sanctions seems like a good idea But it failed to stop Russian aggression, when they invaded Crimea A lot more needs to be done though before it's too late Or the Ukrainian people will suffer, an unspeakable fate. The Ukrainian president has sent out a rallying cry Ukrainians are bearing arms, and are prepared to die The death toll will rise with casualties on either side People are running to find safety but there's no where to hide. Putin claimed only military targets, would be in the line of fire But civilian apartments have been hit, Putin is a liar There has been many deaths, some badly injured too But they will fight to the last man, it's what they will do. Acts of bravery the Ukrainians will always remember Like the guards on Snake Island who refused to surrender The Russian warship fired missiles, all thirteen men died To me that is a war crime; those responsible should be tried. The old days are over, the Soviet Union is long dead Why can't Vladimir Putin get that fact in his head Invading peaceful countries is an abominable crime He should be charged with murder and put away for a long time. You are on such a roll, I almost feel you have some roots in the Ukraine. "Putin claimed only military targets, would be in the line of fire But civilian apartments have been hit, Putin is a liar" or you are simply totally empathetic which is marvelous too.

Thank you very much David, The Ukrainians in no way provoked Russia, It seems Putin is just trying to recreate the old USSR. Tom

In essence it's just a shallow propaganda repetition intune with massive globalists' media attack. In every conflict there are two sides. Media conveniently ignored the massacres of Donbass, Donegal and Lugansk regions by Ukrainian fascists. Watch please John Mearsheimer's lectures on YouTube or "The Ukraine crisis with Dan Cohen and Scott Ritter". The site stopworldcontrol has video about media lies, how they manipulate public opinion via re-using images from previous wars and even from films.

I'm curious about those three regions you mention and will read up about them to get a better idea as to why the present conflict has reached this stage.

Thank you very much Albina, I agree., there is always two sides to an argument and there is a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't get to hear about. John Meirshemer raises some very interesting points about the present crisis and how it has reached this stage. I've noticed a lot of fake news circulating showing images from past conflicts and as you say to sway public opinion. As in many conflicts its the innocent civilians who bear the brunt of the violence and thats what I find totally unacceptable. Tom

Hello Tom ... obviously as we all know, politicians of all kind never fully tell the truth, and if this war goes bad for Russia, Putin might have something to worry about at home - thanks again Tom - Lindsay

Thank you very much Lindsay, we probably won't know the full story for many years to come. At the moment Protests in Russia have been crushed with.an iron fist, when they see all the body bags being brought home may lead to a bigger uprising. Tom

It appears that I do not have enough time to keep up with the latest news from Ukraine, as you did. However, I believe that Putin is possessed by a psychotic desire to rebuild the former Soviet Union with such zeal that he will end up destroying his own country in the process.

Thank you very much Lasaad, he'll never be able to achieve that, many old members of the USSR have now tasted freedom and democracy and won't be to ready to go back to the old ways. Tom

Or, as Lindsay Graham says, "why don't the Russians just shoot him?" It's a terrible thing and, like it or not, Putin can do whatever because he knows we want to avoid nuclear war. Your poem is a wonderful rendition of the war. It's a sad, sad world we live in just now...

Thank you very much Ann, the scenes on tv are heartbreaking to watch at the moment. All this misery and death caused by one madman in the Kremlin. Mankind would be better off if he was assassinated. Tom

It seems we both follow the news about Ukraine avidly, as does all the world. But we all speak from the heart following Putin's atrocities from the very start. We knew he was insane, maybe the truth yet will come to light as he instructs not from the front line, but from behind his desk! WONDERFUL write, blessings, Jennifer.

Thank you very much Jennifer, The SCENES I saw on the news were heartbreaking to see, civilians lying dead after Russian thugs fired missiles indiscriminately at civilian targets, I wish NATO would go in and annihilate those scum. Tom

Tom, you strike a point, USSR is an autumn leave that has fallen off and carried away by winds of change to the sands of time.. Yet Putin wants it restored, not possible!!!

Thank you very much BJ, no one wants war but innocent people are being killed with indiscriminate bombing. The UN should do something about it. After the second world war they said they would never let it happen again. Tom

I agree with this work today. You have put a lot of thought and time into writing this one. I enjoyed reading it. Way to go. Thanks for the visit to my page. We are okay. Our oldest daughter is still healing from falling and breaking her tibia in two places. She has at least four more weeks to go on rest (no weight put on that leg). Sara

He needs to taken-out, by the Russian people before he brings a holocaust down upon their heads. Europe will not allow Him to keep Ukraine. Nice to see that Germany has learned the lesson of History. Great writing, Tom; you summed it up perfectly.

Thank you very much Joe, he's making himself isolated in the world, many Russians are against him but fearful to speak out. I hope his inner circle turn against him and do the world a favour. He should hang for his war crimes. Tom

Well written Tom, History is doomed to repeat itself. People forget 1939. As bad as this is the powers of NATO (a paper tiger) let it happen. Putin should have been stooped years ago.

Thank you very much Andrea, Europe is seeing dark days again like in the second world war. He has little regard for human life. More needs to be done to stop this madman, sad too for the Russians who don't want a war and are being arrested for speaking out. Tom

Thank you very much Bill, my blood was boiling when I saw Russian military invading dispite Putin stating he wouldn't invade. Now I've read they've been ordered to take a city at any cost, it's going to be a bloodbath. Putin should hang for his crimes against humanity. Tom

Yes, that last verse! He’s taking steps backward in his declining years. You’ve done well in this modern telling…could be a classic one day…sadly. Hoping for a good shake up to Putin’s story…a Ukrainian victory and Russian fail. Still we also pray for the “good” people of Russia.

So poignant and brilliantly described Tom. It is a crime ...no doubt about it! To see the strength of the Ukrainians is powerful and surreal. They are getting stronger. None of this should be happening. The Russians are demonstrating . They don't want this either....just the crazy man at the top of the pack !! Thank you for your poem. So important . Blessings, Susan :)

Thank you very much Susan, it's heartbreaking watching the TV reports, many Russians are against this unnecessary war. The state run the media and are brainwashing the people with lies. Putin is a war mongerer and now threatening nuclear weapons. The Ukrainians are fighting back and giving his regime a bloody nose. Tom
