The Hitchhiker
The Hitchhiker
By Elton Camp
Don bought a tool at the hardware store
Then found his car wouldn’t start anymore
A cold front was quickly moving in
He had an urgent job he must begin
Since it’d be dark in an hour or two
He decided what would be best to do
He walked out to the big highway
“I’ll hitchhike home,” he did say
Holding the new tool in his hand,
Hopefully at the road he did stand
With his thumb extended into the air
Expecting some kind soul would care
But no matter how hard he did try
All the cars went on rushing by
“I sure wish somebody would stop
For, at home, I’ve got wood to chop.”
