A large black tree grows near the picket fence.
The sun from that side can be quite intense.
You planted it to shade a lifetime long.
It was an oak tree to grow large and strong.
As branches thickened you hung a chain swing.
My daughters loved their times with this plaything.
But now only our memories remain.
We think back with a fondness and some pain.
We look at these memoirs of your skilled hands.
Then hurt confronts our hearts now and again.
By the picket fence is a large oak tree.
This gift from you still fills our hearts with glee.
