The Gift That I Give You
the gift that I give you
is a pair of my old black polished shoes,
worn out at edges with a tear or two,
keep as my memory, please don’t refuse,
worn when carried you, maternity use!
wrapped in paper is a lock of my hair,
saved from those days when I was young and fair,
just to remind I was not always old,
think of me young, when you bury me cold!
you will find in my dusty old suitcase,
a little frock with decorative lace,
my hand made gift, was for your first birthday,
replete with love, when meagre was my pay.
Photos, memories ~ plenty in that bag,
clothes I wore, you will find many such rag,
I shall hold you in heart at my last breath,
all my motherly love to you I bequeath!
