The Fussbudget
She wakes at dawn, clock set for eight
she tried to rest- but work won't wait
cooking, cleaning, coffee to brew
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Breakfast done, she clears the table
bustles down to meet with Mable
whose hydrangeas won't turn blue-
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Bea had a baby- won't stay long
just tell her what she's doing wrong
these young, new mothers have no clue
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Stopped at the diner for a bite
re-seasoned soup to make it right
rearranged all their tables, too
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Old man Gordon's in quite a state
bout of gout from some food he ate
she lectured him on what to do
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Poor Dora's marriage in distress
(her cheating husband had confessed)
told Dora the whole time she knew
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Saw her granddaughter- had to stare
then straightened perm out of her hair
so saved the day- no credit due
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Back home to get the dinner on
reminded Earl to mow the lawn-
clip the hedges, take trash out, too
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
Fell fast asleep once in her bed
dreaming of busy days ahead
advise, arrange, fix up, re-do
“Oh without me, what would they do?”
