Author's Notes: "The Fire in My Soul" is a Quatern verse write and is a traditional French poetic form consisting of four quatrains with eight syllables per line. I originally wrote this poem on August 30, 2015. I did not pursue a set meter and a strict rhyming pattern for this particular subject undertaking. In this write I attempted to structure the notions of lost love, spiritual pain, soul searching, and human redemption around the repeating refrain in the poem, to wit: "The fire in my soul is real." For me, the message of this poem is poignant and ends on a personal supplication from the poem's protagonist who seeks to restore the lost love and the former sense of human normalcy that existed once before in a special relationship. I should further note that the subject "protagonist" in this write could actually be either a man or woman. (Gary Bateman - September 20, 2015) (Quatern)
