The falling leaves tell a summer story
of roses blush with fullness as they bloom.
Waving fields of grass were July’s glory,
and they will say it fades away too soon.
The falling leaves speak of summer sunshine
of evenings with a lighted hue of gold
days that were as perfect as a fine wine
and midnights searing with a passion bold.
The falling leaves forecast a coming winter
a cause for human closeness, friends and fire.
Into our protective caverns we will enter
to be warmed by the hearth of heart’s desire.
If we listen to our world, nature sighs,
as do the falling leaves as each one dies.
