The black and white photograph shows six boys, young men-
six young men laughing with their friends,
the photograph is yellow pale and faded,
the surface wrinkled from time and the touching of hands,
their clothing is clean but not fashionable for the time,
yet, these boys seem very proud of their attire.
One is smoking and one looks away shy,
some look confident smiling with too much pride-
the others stand too straight for the photograph.
All these boys will not come home from the war,
they will die in a battle that took thousands,
their bodies laying face down in the dirt of a poppy field,
buried in graves far from home and family.
So this last photograph of these boys,
is treasured and loved.
