The Edge of Reason
I'm to be married in just a short time -
At least I was until my temper fit.
I have blamed it on a simple ring chime
That rang and rang until my fuse was lit.
Now my fiance is a busy soul,
And the cell phone connects her to the world.
"Somewhere over the rainbow." rings like "sold",
And the flags of success are unfurled.
It was a dark day with a cloudy sky -
A toothache blinded me without a break.
"Somehere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly"
That phone rings now somewhere down in the lake
I apologized when I felt better.
The edge of reason's a flirtatious girl.
That cell phone lies somewhere and gets wetter
As I smile when I recall that hurl.
