The Dog Fight

THE DOG FIGHT There was a famous Indian, known all throughout the land For his black dog and white dog that he kept in command. He’d have them fight each other, betting on which would prevail, And always pick the right one--it never seemed to fail. Somebody finally asked him how he could always know Which dog would win the battle wherever he would go. “It’s simple,” said the Indian, “I feed the one I choose, The other one is starving, and he’s the one to lose.” I find in this a lesson: two natures in my life Are fighting there inside me in an ongoing strife. The black one is the nature of flesh and self and sin, The white one is the nature of Jesus there within. If I feed that black nature, it will much stronger grow; If I feed that white nature, Christ’s righteousness will show. So as I journey heavenward, this truth I’ll always need: The nature that’s victorious is the nature that I feed. Lord, help me feed that nature that You have made in me So that while I am living Your presence man will see. --Dedicated to Steve Curington, based on one of the “Ten Principles of Prosperity”
