The Distant Hope

When it dawns, when the sun smiles When the hills arise and stretch When the cuckoo sings over my window My dear friend I think of you. When drops of rain patter over my sill When drops of golden sunshine peep through the leaves When stray puppies cuddle to their mom My dear friend I think of you. When thunder shatters my window pane When lightning illuminates uncertain futures When rough waters rock my voyage My dear friend I think of you. When I walk through uneven seas When tears roll down my cheeks Then I see a small leading light My dear friend I think of you. When I’m alone in the woods after sunset When all the birds leave me alone to go home When the overgrowth tugs at my skirt When I see a ray of hope My dear friend I think of you. When cool breeze brushes my hair When moonlight spills over my bed When I feel the want of someone And I feel warmth at long last My dear friend I think of you. When I peep over my window When the gentle breeze tells me tales of yore When the twilight blesses my hope When I see a distant stallion heading down My dear friend I think of you.
