The Day You Were Born

He hit me..! mom did you see?
What is all this OOAAHHH! in my head? This thing I will call-
 sound...
Where did the warmth go?
I can't breath..
who are all of these creatures..
crazy beings.., is that called smiling?
Looks as though they intend-
to eat me... unprepared, naked, me.

So cold, can't they see I'm drowning?!?
I want to go back where my eyes don't
scream in my head,
back where it was warm..
mom.., why?

Hello new one, it's life,
the ticking continues..
to the end.

Let the comparison begin,
for life!
why can't you be's forever on!
crazy, isn't it fine
that I'm just me..?

Why can't you be!
more like your brother,
smart like your sister,
pretty as a peach,
skinny as a beanpole,
curvy and fit,
taller than my ex,
or tan and brawny,
as Hercules.

When will you grow up!
when will you listen!
when will you stop whining?

Please let me be happy,
please let me be...
just me.

This is so sad. There should be no comparisons, there is only one beautiful and precious one of a kind soul in each individual... so beautifully crafted by the hand of the creator. God doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. A mathematician, an artist, a doctor, a poet...and, oh so many other amazing gifts bestowed on each unique soul. Thank you for penning this, it would be nice to include this poem with every birth certificate of every single child born!

Sad Raven That you should even have to ask For what is essentially once the day you are born. Should be your Birthright

Each one is unique.... comparison can take away the joy of a child even though every parent wants his/her children to behave well. But when they misbehave it will drive the parents crazy ! You have looked upon it from both angles....Thanks dear friend for your kind visit to my page.

Poor baby had to come into this world being slapped around to make it cry. :) We are given life and nurtured to who we are. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

Richard,Your last two lines, reminded me of ee cummings. most of us who are aware of our individuality and are not followers, nor sheep, just want to be ourselves. People swoop down upon us like eagles. Or...avoid us, and we are not accepted into their club of sheep.thats how like goes. I know one dude here who will kiss every poem but mine. I just laugh now. Yep. Well said. The baby probably starts complaining to God from the get-go. "Couldn't you do better than this?" Well thought out.

Comparisions just diminish us all - we should just see the gifts each one has ~
