The Day You Passed
The sun was shining brightly,
The sky was oh so clear,
When in the distance I could hear the sirens drawing near.
I didn't think twice about it,
Just headed back inside,
Then as they pulled into your yard,
The worst thing came to mind.
I dropped what I was doing,
And quickly ran your way,
When at your doorstep looking in,
Your lifeless body lay.
My heart sank deep inside my chest
When the paramedic call out clear,
Your birthday was just two days ago,
I was just over here.
I saw your body convulse
As they put the paddles on your chest.
One, Two, Three they count
Then their voices come to rest.
They put you on the gourney
Said they've done all they could do,
Then when they brought you to the door,
I knew this must be true.
I was standing there in shock,
Tears flowing from my eyes,
Then as I looked upon at your face,
It took me by surprise.
Your head was very swollen
Your skin a shade of blue,
This wasn't the way you always look,
I stared at you confused.
I followed you to the hospital,
In hopes to hear good news,
It seemed like a million years had passed,
While in that waiting room.
The doctor finally entered
With a stern look in his eyes,
He said you had already passed,
Before the ambulance arrived.
Ever since the day you died,
I swear a part of me died too,
For I regret it everyday,
Not spending more time with you.
So heres my poem I wrote to you,
My uncle, my best friend,
Please know I'll keep you in my heart,
Until my life too will end.
