The Dark Side of the Light
One slash is all it would take.
One simple, twisted movement.
No.
“Push through,” they said.
I tried, I really tried.
I wore a smile,
A mask of “fun,”
While drowning in the weight
Of my lonely life.
I pushed through, alright—
Each day a battle,
The thought lingering,
One slash is all it would take.
Looking up at the misty sky,
My mind wanders,
Drifting like clouds,
To the cold bite of winter,
When the snow and sleet
Stung my skin.
Would I miss the warm embrace
Of a golden sun?
The gentle breeze that whispered
Hope into my heart?
My heart… my heart.
Racing, heavy,
A storm brewing inside.
Stop.
What if it stopped?
Would anyone care?
A pause,
A silence.
Yet in that stillness,
A glimmer—
A friend’s laugh,
A moment shared,
The warmth of connection
Flickering like candlelight.
What if, just maybe,
I could hold on?
Feel the sun’s warmth,
Embrace the storm,
And find my way
Through the darkness.
And still, it returns—
One slash is all it would take.
