The Crosses In Their Eyes

Children up for adoption caught my eye. I saw them on TV. I easily cry! Abandoned babies, tots and teens, smiling bravely, waving "Hi!" But I saw sad crosses in their eyes. Children begging to be chosen. Look! Look! into their eyes. ________________________ For Justin Bordner Contest The crosses in your eyes .

Darlene, I love this beautiful piece about a sad issue. There are far too many children who need to be embraced by loving, caring people. I hope this piece will reach many who will be inspired to adopt! Good luck in the contest, my friend! It's a 7! Warmest regards. Pandita

Thanks, Pandita, and yes, It was my aim to encourage others to consider adopting a child. This is one time I feel that the issue is more important than the contest. Thanks for the 7. ~~~Darlene

Just read this one. It is a very nice entry for that contest. This judge is VERY selective and I am sure my poem will not get chosen (it's not even posted yet) You will have a better chance than me because mine is a short funny haiku!! (probably he doesn't want us to do his challenge with comedy. haha)

Can't wait to read your haiku! I'll check and see if it is posted yet. I'm sure you'll do well in the contest. I've never posted to this judge before, so I'll just hope for the best. I certainly have not had any luck with recent contests.

Oh DArlene, I am so happy to meet another Iowan here. I've been gone from there so long, but I dated a DAvenport boy. If you are older (like me)it's possible you could know him! If you are a young thing, you wouldn't know him. His name is John Spencer. I cannot find him on FB or anywhere and fear he has died. he would be around 60 today. If you know the Spencers, let me know. (Athena Spencer was his sister!)

Sorry, I do not know this guy. And I'm sure you are much younger than me, I'm 78. I left Iowa in '77, when my son's Dr. told me Gary would not make it through another Iowa winter because he was getting pneumonia so much. (he had Cystic Fibroses) So I packed up my two sons, sold what we could and took the greyhound to Ca. Where Gary lived another 6 years, so it was worth it! Blessings, Darlene

Thank you, Buck, I pray this poem will get others to think about adopting. Not only will they find many rewards, but their hearts will expand with the love these children will bring into their lives. ~~~Darlene

Bless your dear mother's best friend, Jan, for adopting those 4 children. What a loving heart she must have and I can imagine the affect she had on those children . As you say, their lives were transformed. How could they not be with a mother like that. They were blessed by God who knew who would be the one to adopt them."All things work for good who.." You know the rest. May other children be blessed as well with their new adoptive families!

My mum's best friend adopted 4 children in the 1960's - all of them had terrible backgrounds but she and her husband gave them such an amazing childhood their lives were all transformed:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks for your support, Jan. I was hoping my poem would get some people to think about adopting. I'm too old myself, but my heart goes out to the children waiting for someone to love them.~~Darlene
