The Clown

THE CLOWN He made the children laugh at all the things he’d done, His shoes so big and red, his car that wouldn’t run, But something seemed so wrong and empty there within; As hard as he would try, he couldn’t shake the din. He went once to a doctor who told him of a cure, “If you’ll go to the circus, you’ll laugh at this, I’m sure. You see there is this clown who does such funny things That everyone who sees him, a smile to their face brings.” “Well, sir, I’d like to go, but there’s one thing that’s wrong, I am the man you speak of performing for those throngs. I know I make them laugh, but I cry oft at night, For I am so unhappy with life and all its plight.” The doctor had no answer for his unusual guest, No drug or operation would help him with his quest. But then he was invited to hear another man Who told about salvation through such a simple plan. The clown, though he was funny, was sad himself inside Until he asked the Savior to come in and abide. And now his smile’s inside as well as on his face, For he has trusted Christ and been saved by His grace.

Magnificent Clarence. We can all smile, inside and out, when we have God in our hearts.
