The City Lights
Once upon a time, I walked through the city lights.
The lights reflected rainbow diamonds on my eyes.
The towering giants made my head spin around
And the electric air took my breath away.
They were walking on a fast treadmill.
They wore tight ties and had faded faces.
They had blank eyes and wore tight trousers.
I swore that I would never be like them.
I walked whistling, my arms dancing around.
I could smell victories and almost touch my
Dreams. Drive sat on my broad shoulders.
I swore that I would never be like them.
Time went on. My hopes dried and died.
I could see the scars through the fresh paint
Of the city walls then. Despair followed me
Through the dark alleys.
Through the dark alleys, people lost their way.
Pretty face isn't pretty heart.
I walked back through the city lights,
My back curved, my arms crossed,
My voice silent, and my eyes lost.
I am one of them now, one of them...
