The Butterfly and the Drone

Part 3 to, Thunder and The Future Soldier, a Trilogy

A wee little boy
From the other side of the world
In the hills of Virginia
Where serenity and calm reign

He meanders home from school
Baseball was such blast
All boys should be sentenced to such enchantments
He smiles, as his eyes gleam at father’s computer

Wow, a video game he sees
How I love those games he exclaims!
Curiosity has captured his imagination
As he plays with mouse and joystick

Far far away, in the land of ISIS
A jeep filled with soldiers
Whose only goal, is to fulfill their hatred
Allah they say, when it’s only narrow minds they worship

A drone fly’s overhead, surveilling these routes of ancient hate
Silently filming the movements below
Now we have an eye on the devil, from afar
Our heads in the clouds no more

The little boy is good at this game
He has played super Mario and more
So he takes his best shot
And KABOOM the jeep of devils explodes

The drone fires his missiles
Obliviating those inhuman targets below
Command and control in shock
The drone was unarmed after all

The little boy jumps in glee
That video game was tons of fun
Through an open window
The Butterfly flutters overhead,

A silent smile

Justice undone, now restored

I like the twist in this one. We all know it is not a real scenario yet the premise and meaning of it is very effective. What we use as entertainment has been taken and used for more sinister purposes. Some of our children are in fact using the video skills from childhood to operate those systems.

Thanks Richard, I think I failed, at this one as my meaning was somewhat different, I think I should have posted some notes actually. I was trying to show that without him knowing one child via fate or karma, got justice for another child far away, but innocently, without intention or malice.

As the only video game designer likely to view this poem, I must say this is the weakest of the 3 poems. This is not an Ender's Game scenario, the boy comes home to his father's computer. Real drones would never be controlled from a home, too many fail-safes built in, monitoring, etc. The butterfly that links the boy's computer to the drone, a demonic presence rather than a miraculous one. Evil men too fall under God's grace don't you think? An imaginative work but not plausible.

aha now I understand it.. :) the boy is much ore entertained with fight fighting video games than games which are interactive to humans... another point you have here is that: you put a rather reality thing in this write and that is the war happening here on Earth which is caused by some "cruel" officials who taught they are fighting for faith but only God knows to what reason they are really fighting for.. .. with the butterfly and drone.. the drone a male bee and a fighter engine.

your last three lines still I cant comprehend..justice undone but there's restoration??? intriguing.... :O or do you mean the death of innocent lives goes to justice undone and the last goes to the wins after a war thus peace is restored? that i think?

I hate the idea that video games are like built in baby sitters in America. Alot of young parenters believe it is exceptable to give a machine such power with a child. It's a waist to me to allow such young minds to believe violence is excetible. No my children spent more time outside and not that much with the TV sitter. I love the parts also about the soilder, a well blended and over all great work here Arthur. cheri

It has been an interesting write. It is big difference on how two boys are raised on two different sides of the world. I like your last line. Thanks for sharing... Lucilla

Very interesting write, Arthur. According to Prince Harry, video games did help him with his skills as a pilot. Go figure. Hugs
