Notes About The Poem
Written on October 16th, 2025 for Robert James Liguori's Bruised Bird Contest.

The Bruised Bird

The radiance of sunlight glistens upon a trickling stream,
whilst cotton candy clouds float in the turquoise skies.
Floral scents dance on playful breezes,
as the warmth of a midsummer day blankets the emerald moss.

A weeping willow waits just past the expanding horizon,
among paths of primroses and lavender.
Beneath its draping branches lies a small earthen grave.
Etched upon a smooth piece of granite reads:

“R.I.P. Cheesesteak. In this life your soul may have been bruised,
but in the next, you will soar with the stars.”

Dear Sara, Congrats on POTD, and how gently, you guide us to the grave beneath the willow, where the grieving lives. “Cheesesteak” what a name to break the heart open. It’s unexpected, grounding, and somehow makes the loss feel even more personal. Even the smallest lives deserve poetry, and that memory can be a kind of flight. With warmth and reverence, Autumn Blessings, Dear Sara, Daniel

Reading this poem gives a comforting feel to all who are bruised here but would be graced to live in bliss elsewhere in a heavenly realm. Congratulations Sara on your POTD honor

Bruised, but not broken. Difficult at times to fly beyond the stars, but a little encouragement helps. That's what your thoughts remind me of. This is tender and emotional, all at the same time. Congratulations Sara, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy
