The Broken Compass

By Gail Debole
A man, an expert of scam,
Possessed “gifts” birthed from his clan.
With an IQ higher than most,
Lived on funds scammed from his hosts.
He possessed a charm most moms would like.
He was likeable from the age of tyke.
Yet as he grew his life went awry
To create victims with financial cries.
For after draining each victim’s wealth
He moved on using online stealth.
The agent who caught him was stressed
By his fast-thinking and charming zest.
“Why did this man’s life go awry.
With his IQ, why wouldn’t he try
To use his smarts for the sake of this earth?”
Instead, he misused the “gifts” given at birth.
With all the blessings he seemed to possess
He lacked one that upended the rest -
A solid moral compass. He could not see
Past his ego and overpowering greed.
