The Bridge of Dire Necessity

Moist jungle's steaming breath assaults my face
Molasses air I struggle to inhale
Your ruddy visage slowly drains to pale
Sharp cliff, black knife wound in the verdant space
Decrepit footbrige held up by mere grace
Each rope suspended taut by one sole nail
No time for turning back, it's move or fail
Their fever burns, thin lives that wane apace

We're down to you or me; I see I've lost
Your pallid tremors, so I walk on high
Death matters not, as all will share the cost
Without the cure, those that I love will die
Wood creaks as ropes strain, hands sweat, mind of frost
Firm terra I touch, sweet success is mine

Really nice work Tom I missed this one, really well written, great imagery I felt I was right there crossing with you, good thing I wasn't, we probably would not have made it.

I am faving this, it has so much to absorb, the feel, the words, what a brilliant write that makes the reader crawl inside and hang by the ropes of the words. Nicely done.

The language, the structure, the beginning with quality personification, the flavour of molasses air,all these are awe inspiring ... but the thrill of touching the terra firma radiates instant poetry ... Your Sonnet has been splendid, as far as I can grasp ... after all English is not my mother tongue ...

In my inexperience with sonnets, I probably cannot fully appreciate the form of sonnet yet and am more focussed on the content so far. But/and the content and the imagery of your poem is awesome.
