The Blessing of a Sparrow - Matthew 10: 29-31 Luke 12: 6,7
They are so insignificant a creature
seeing them as they are a mere sparrow
but created by God as are all His birds
scripture points with the divine arrow
Jesus came as the son of God
who owned cattle on a thousand hills
but [points to the sparrow under God's care
no harm will fall upon it till God wills
The Lord uses this tiny creature
to stop us worrying in our track
reminds us we're of more value
than that sparrow just round the back
In Bible times, sold them for 2 pennies
yet God never forgot them at all
He knows all our very hairs
so won't forget us when we call
The divine eye is on the sparrow
so I know He's looking upon me
what blessed assurance to my soul
this is God eternal in the heavens
my wonderful saviour has set me free
('Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.' Matthew 10: 29-31
'Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.' Luke 12: 6,7)
"I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
For his eye is on the sparrow
and I know He watches me"
- Civilla D. Martin (1866-1948)
