The betrayal of innocence
leads to emotional collapse.
A fledgling heart must flex its wings;
before its flight feathers get clipped.
Nothing's more devastating than
the betrayal of innocence.
Songbirds cease to sing cheery songs;
and suddenly, words take on weight.
Your world is a less friendly place;
for, now, you see life's ugly side.
The betrayal of innocence
feels like death from a thousand cuts.
Trust is no longer free of doubt;
what was, can never be restored.
You cannot forgive nor forget;
the betrayal of innocence.
