The Beast of Stephen

This Christmas Day I guess I’m gonna have to nibble jerky Cos some bright spark just had a lark and went and named my turkey So in the season when the snow is deep and crisp and even How the hell am I supposed to feast upon my Stephen And so I’ve got a brand new pet that’s given life a wobble A pet that doesn't go cluck cluck cos turkeys gobble gobble I try to find him pretty and ignore each wrinkly knobble But he looks like a chicken that just got out of Chernobyl

Thanks Dear Heart. You know what tickles me most about this poem? It didn’t so much as occur to me when I wrote it... that my brothers name is Stephen.

OH, this is hilarious, Terry! What clever rhymes with jereky and turkey and knobble and Chernobyl. And I adore the implied references to the "Feast of Stephen." Best wishes in the contest and don't eat too much jerky :) Carolyn
