The Balance I Miss
As long as they’re happy,
I’m good.
The world feels lighter when their smiles are real,
when their days unfold easy and bright.
I can settle into that,
let it be enough,
let it be all I need.
As long as they’re happy,
I’m good.
The quiet peace of knowing
they’ve found their way,
that I haven’t missed some small thing
that might tip their balance.
It’s all I want, really.
And yet,
there’s a tug sometimes,
a question that rises
without a name.
What if I’m the one who’s off,
the one who hasn’t figured it out?
But then I push it away,
because
as long as they’re happy,
I’m good.
It’s simpler that way.
I give what I can,
hold the spaces for them,
and watch them move through life
with ease I don’t always find for myself.
But it’s fine.
As long as they’re happy,
I’m good.
Maybe I’ll never figure out
how to be whole,
but as long as they’re happy,
I can keep pretending
it’s enough.
