The Ambush Predator
When we think of predators,
they may be big and growl.
Maybe a hungry bear,
or a hunting lion on the prowl.
It could be a pack of coyotes,
in search of that midnight snack.
They are not all big,
and they don't always hunt in a pack.
The Orchid Mantis is quite small,
but ruthlessly keen.
Don't be fooled by its appearance,
it's very tricky and mean.
It mimics a beautiful flower,
like an artist's molded clay.
But it becomes much brighter,
just to attract its prey.
It's beautifully sculpted,
in a deceitful disguise.
There is more to this fake flower,
than what merely meets the eye.
