I am assuming you mean the 50's and 60's, but it could also apply to the 40's. It is definitely describing the queens for a day who wore make up, jewelry, fancy dresses, and high heeled shoes as they did their housework on TV.

Thanks Caren, I'm actually referring to the before and after of the moment when a woman says I've had enough of putting my energy into this daily beauty pageant ordeal... and I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I think it's wonderful when a woman of a certain age is still coquette but it's even more amazing when her beauty comes from within regardless of any conscious effort. Line xx
