The Addict
Crush up the pill
Lay it out in a line
You don't have to do this
This is your first time
Right up your nose
Straight to your brain
Forget all the sadness
Numb all the pain
At first it's just fun
Every now and again
Escaping for an evening
Getting high with your friends
Soon enough it's not fun
It becomes a thing of need
Now you've become trapped
It's a beast you must feed
You'll lie and you'll steal
So you can get high
Then you'll hate what you've become
You'll wish you could die
You'll lay in the dark
You'll know you're a mess
You may as well get high
You're completely hopeless
What once felt like Heaven
Is now your Hell
What you thought had you on top of the world
Just had you so high you didn't realize you fell
You wallow and hate yourself
You swear that you'll quit
Well, you'll cut back...
At least a little bit..
But you don't cut back
You use more and more
You'll do just about anything
For one single score
You've gotten to the point
That you can't get enough
You've lost all your friends
You've sold all your stuff
You're just an empty version
Of what used to be you
You pretend that it's not
But you know that it's true
Now all that matters
Is that next bag of dope
You've given up on yourself
You've lost all your hope
You forgot where you started
Can't remember where you came from
You're so lost and scared
You can only see the monster you've become
You need to hit bottom
Before you can climb to the top
When you've finally hit bottom
You'll know it has to stop
It's you or the drugs
You can't both go on
As hard as it is
You HAVE to be strong
Quitting's not easy
It's a little like Hell
But the temporary suffering
Is worth getting well
Don't be embarrassed
Afraid or ashamed
You have a disease
You're not to blame
Forever "an addict"
But don't let that define you
ALWAYS REMEMBER
But keep it behind you
You can get sober
You'll find a reason to stay clean
I know it's all true
Because that addict is me
