The Miracle Was You
I recall a crimson sunrise,
How it turned the night to day.
And I kissed beneath a Harvest moon,
But with whom I cannot say.
Miracles? I have seen a few,
Below as well above—
And I count myself as Royalty
For having been in love.
I have held a baby in my arms
And delighted at its cry—
I have even watched a life begin,
And I’ve watched a loved one die.
And I have known Shakespeare,
Also Vincent, now at rest—
And I spent a day with Emily,
Although I was but a guest.
I was a teacher and a poet;
A father and a friend—
And I knew a time when Fairytales
Would happily-ever end.
Ah, the wonders I have seen,
Though till late I never knew—
The miracle was a drop of rain,
Though really, it was you!
