The Doomsday Clock - 2- Minutes To Midnight

You go about your daily life, but do you even care ? That one day you will wake up and your earth's not there And what I'm about to tell you may come as quite a shock But it's only two minutes to midnight on the Doomsday clock. In nineteen forty seven the worlds scientists did all agree To create some sort of symbol to show the end of humanity So an imaginary clock was made for all of us to see And when the clock chimes midnight, it's the end for you and me . We're in the nuclear age now with climate change as well And some of our world leaders are ringing our death knell When they test their nuclear bombs the big hand starts to move What in the name of God I ask, are they all trying to prove. There won't be any winners, we'll all cease to exist All of us will be vaporised in a cloud of nuclear mist The ozone layer, the Artic ice and the forest's too Are all slowly being eroded, but what can we all do. Well you can vote for people, that can help mankind survive And if they get in then there's a chance, we'll get out of this alive There is still some time though with two whole minutes to go But please don't say you weren't warned or that you didn't know. Written on February 4th 2018. ( Entered into , The Doomsday Clock 2 Minutes To Midnight, poetry competition and sponsored by Emile Pinet.)

And still people are not listening. I think we are at a very close point now that some of the damage cannot be reversed. Emilia : )

Thank you Chery, Thankfully most of us do our bit now and its something I think should be taught in schools so its encouraged as normal behaviour, I remember refrigerator's became harmful emitting gases that damaged the ozone, our governments must have known for years, and what else are they keeping from us.Scary stuff.God forbid that it ever happens but hopefully we won't know anything about it. Regards Tom.

I am afraid to live in California because of this kind of thing - the ground could just open up beneath me! I try not to think about this kind of disaster too much, but I do have nightmares about it.

Sadly its a grey cloud that we live under now Amy. It is worrying with countries arming themselves to the teeth and wouldn't hesitate to press the button.Man has got too clever for his own good. And they argue that we need to be able to defend ourselves ,but there wouldn't be anything left to defend,we'd all be losers. Regards Tom

Sadly we are all conspirators in the hastening of our demise. We have been around roe a relatively short period of time and have done significant damage. Well expressed my friend.

Bravo Tom! I have been putting that information out there for years. Even tackled my local council on habitat mismanagement. Sought advice from professional Naturalists, and basically, all I ever got was, 'Your scaremongering''. Well now big names are shouting, Hawkings, Attenborough, Pakham, just to mention a few, there are many more throughout the world who are putting it out there. Plastics, I brought that topic up at health & safety seminar, not on the now current problem,(run out of space)!

Thank you Mick, Man has certainly made a mess of things. And everyone is good at blaming someone else and then looking the other way ,not my problem is what you often hear, and all the big names raising the issues ,I just hope the world stops and listens to them. The world is full of greed, corruption and power grabbing. God help mankind. Regards Tom.

but on the toxins that leach out into our plastic wrapped food produce. Research at the time had proven that certain chemicals were causing sterility in humans, not even a whisper about it nowadays, another 'LITTLE' thing brushed under the proverbial (governmental, business), carpet/s. No doubt there is much we laymen have no clue about UNTIL the gov/business is caught out! It is like they know that a road is dangerous but they wait until someone/s is/are killed. Like the present, we are all trying to shut the door, after the event, (If Prof. S. Hawkins is correct we have but 600 years to make things right, (599 now), or 1 minute 59 seconds. In spacetime reality that is less than a nano part of a second to put what's right! ANON, hopefully. Mick

Great poem Tom, the way humans are carrying on with disregard to what is best for our planet, it will be of no surprise such a day comes.. Especially as there are some crazy world leaders with nuclear weapons they are not afraid to use... Good luck in the contest..

Thank you S.O., I couldn't agree with you more, It's heartbraking what you see sometimes and all the waste dumped in the world's oceans, the latest concern being plastic bags. Just hope mankind gets his act together before its too late. Regards Tom
