The 70's This was the decade of the “cold war,” of a world’s sad song never heard before. Darkness fell upon the land. Old and young failed to understand. The lollipop time of the 60's was over. It was gas lines and hostages not crimson and clover. We lived each day with Aquarius dreams in a wistful world of worn out jeans. Corruption was quite commonplace. Shame was the word for the human race. Death, blood, violence and lots of hair as streakers ran through crowds, stark bare. We saw a war each night on TV. Then tuned to "All in the Family." Nuclear power plants flourished and grew. Were they safe? Who cared or knew. Serial killers having their play while 918 died Jim Jones' way broken homes and addictions the rage, disco dancers twisting in a cage hijackings and terrorism bombs Worship the moon. Worship the dawn. Where did the truth really exist? In the horror from The Exorcist? Those who were young may now be old. Do they remember the 70's cold? 3/4/18 Where were you in the 70’s? Great ink! Born in 72, I am really enjoying these glimpses into a past I was there for but not really. Love the rhyme rhythm and flow of this piece. And the meat of it. Congratulations on your win. xomo

Unfortunately Maureen, we are seeing those times again right now. When I got this picture, it was only the clothes that let me know it was the 70's. We know children are still being shot in schools and leaders in high power are even more corrupt. It is just a little harder to catch them. Thanks for the comments.

Yes, I do remember these times very well, Sian. You have imaged them so well in your poem. Congratulations on your First Place win. Hugs, Sandra

Sandra, I sat in front of the tv, pregnant with my daughter the day Nixon resigned. I will never forget it and I hope to see a repeat scene. Thanks for the congrats. Blessings, Janis.

A strange time, a miasma of hedonism and sadism, and all of John lennon's other 'isms', I suppose. Hope there are still some precious nice memories floating to the surface, Sian. A great write, congrats!

Yes, Viv. There was college graduation, marriage, births, first jobs, mortgages. But somehow, inside yourself the things going on around you made you depressed with whatever you were doing. When night fell, there was an increased darkness. I don't know whether it had something to do with the moon, planets? Thanks for the congrats.

Thank for entering this great poem, Sian. Suddenly our current times don't look all that dreadful. We did survive the worst that the 70's had to throw at us. Congrats on a top placement, Sian. Well done.

I see from the entries I was not the only one who thought those were dark days. There was an awful lot going on. Thanks for the winning placement.

I remember it all! And "Crimson and Clover" was a song in the sixties by Tommy James and the Shondelles.

You don't look old enough but then who am I to say. Thanks for the info on the song.. I knew it was from the 60's but I didn't know by who. Always good to hear from you Dale.
