THAT THING

It awoke again That thing That painful howl Lost In a labyrinth Of lies Snarling at the sunshine Longing for the darkness Hiding in the shadows That thing That searing memory The razor’s edge Of lunacy Slicing The hope of peace Dashing The dream of dalliance Clawing At cerebral caution Tearing At the heart Of the one Who saved them both.

This poem gets inside your mind John....a very moving and thought provoking write..trying to put a name to the spectral visitation. True to form, your poetry engages the reader at various levels.

The Minotaur that walks the hallways of King Minos' palace also walks within the minds of us all; or am I thinking about the wrong thing John? Nevertheless, this poem is wonderful. Thanks

such suspense in your words, John. Your poem was powerful exposing such mental pain and anguish. The 'thing' was the perfect symbol for something unnamed, something so powerful that it's disruptive. Nicely don, John. Have a splendid evening, Sara

Is it guilt that drags a heart and soul into the depth of darkness? Or a demon who claws and tears at all chance of hope... the power to escape can be terminal. John, you walked on the edge to write this compelling free verse.
