That Little Thing Inside Your Chest

You've lived with it all your life, Through all the anger, fear, and strife, It reminds you always, it's okay, It keeps you going, day by day, Even under dreadful stress, It still serves you, nonetheless, And, should you choose to run, It even puts up with this “fun,” With all of this, it agrees quite gladly, Even if you abuse it badly, It cheerfully does all above, The only problem with it, is love, You don't own your heart, it's rented, By someone else, it can be dented, Or stabbed, and torn, When you're in love, it must be borne, Lest you lose the other's gaze, Which would crush you, for all days. If you had a man made heart, Could you then skip that part That causes all the human pain, The feeling that lets you live again? If you could choose, what would you say? Would you give your heart away? To never have to cry again, To never live in love, what then? No loving kiss that makes you sway, Would you give your heart away? Well, would YOU?

No, not unless a worthy heart was offered in exchange with the promise to cherish mine as if his own.
