That Best Left Wild

I am a fool's fool
Haunted by a feral phantom
Decades of loves and mutability
(Since "then") ...
Yet, it is YOU who wounds my twilight
Piercing the rib of my dreams
To stain my waking hours
With the blood of your memory
Voltaic skin ... lucent smile ...
Sugary-tart flavors of your portions
All have seeped into my mind's marrow
And the reveries of my slumber.
It is folly, I know, yet I wonder ...
Do such sleep-time vagaries visit you?
Do you find my tameless form in the nethers of night?
Do I still wander the mists of your meanderings?
Or have you expunged me from your thoughts
Pressed my heart like a flower ...
And placed it within the ancient leaves
Of a love story, long-forgotten?
Those, questions I'd rather not have answered
But keep to the dark, wild depths of the nameless
Lest their truth turn those yearning, soul-sad dreams ...
