Tender Years
We were just eighteen
Tender years you and I share
We saved up for gas
Put in my old Beetle Bug
Never knew if it would run
Or, if it would last
No air in that car
Hot summer days in the South
Our makeup running
Hair falling, need aqua net
So, our hair would reach the sky
Radio plays loud
Oingo Boingo, Tears for Fears
38 Special
Four Non Blondes, Flock of Seagulls
Listened to all of those years
We went to dances
And, tried out the ”The Running Man”
Getting our groove on
“Moon Walk,”, The “Cabbage Batch,” next
Trying to learn all of these
The crowd just passes
We skinny-dipped, too
Harper’s lake, not to be seen
To the cabin fast
Oh, what will our mothers’ think?
A secret to keep
Those tender years had
My best friend, just you and me
Always together
It will last, time tried and true
Fun times, sad times, all times real
Fond memories, still.
