Taking a Chance

I'm taking a chance
           against my better judgment?
                how else will I know
if you are worthy of trust
               I must be vulnerable

              this could be a dream
this could be the worst nightmare
                one way to find out:
I leave my heart's door ajar
and hope the risk is worth it

The heart is built for chance, and it cries and sings for it's blessings...and it must learn to survive. I hope your heart remains open Eileen...J.A.B.

My heart is always open to the ones who see my inner self and love me for who I am. My heart is open to the ones I love...always. Thanks for your lovely visit, Justin. I've missed you....

by the way, sweetie. I realize my mary jane poem is not the popular stance, but I just think it is unfair to penalize folks who like one thing while others are able to drink alcohol. Best scenario is to eliminate all drugs and drink and smokes, but this is taking away civil liberties. marijuana is one of them!! I never dreamed I'd be saying this when I was in my youth and totally against stuff like marijuana, and I still have never even tried it myself!!

A dilemma it is Eileen. To be or not to be! Eve had the same problem; we know the results. Curiosity can kill the cat. But if we do not risk could we not be missing on something good? But, Pandora took the risk...and see what happened! Playing for time could turn out to be a wise temporary solution:) // paul

Trust is the cornerstone of any relationship my dear, Eileen! To trust someone we must know him first but to know him we have to communicate but to communicate we must approach him/her but to do so we must open an account of trust, if he doesn't betray our trust then we open a larger account and so on. Taking risks is the way of life. When we plant a flower we take a risk that it will bloom, if we do not plant it though there is not going to be any blooming! Splendid writing!

My dear poet...it's easy to risk when you are strong and brave....When you are broken, it becomes a different matter. Self-preservation is high on my list at the moment. I don't have spare emotions to invest in people who will not be main stays in my life. That is the truth of the matter. I love the example you've given about flowers. It isn't just the planting...it is the watering and the tender loving care that needs time that will bring that bloom. :) You know this well, my dear. Hugs

Wouldn't that be something, Richard! Sometimes our dreams have to come under HIS supervision. You know that verse in Psalms that says: May He grant you the desires of your heart even as you hope in him. Well, the desires of our hearts are sometimes not according to His will. That's the sad part... Sometimes, we have to let some dreams go...Therein lies my struggle. This poem was about a friendship and not love. Someone send me a friend request that I had on hold till I got to know the person better...or...till I got to know myself better. Thanks for the visit.

I agree with you, Tim. But sometimes...there are other considerations as well. Ah...life...and dilemmas. Thanks for the visit. This poem is actually about a friendship...but your comment has the ring of truth to it. Hugs

deep love requires an open heart -- but wise is the one who uses caution when plumbing these treacherous love depths -- where great beauty lies next to peril -- how's that for saying be careful little one but give love a try.

Thank you, David. Loved the "little one". I'm much older than y ou think, I'm sure. I'm all of 47. Thanks for your lovely post. This poem was actually about friendship and not love. I suppose it could be applied to love as well. It is hard to be vulnerable. I get hurt easily and recover slowly...It takes me time.

Hi, Jan....in the end you think, what have I got to lose? This could be a great friendship. I've been overly cautious with some poets. I hurt easy. I don't recover quickly. I'm feeling optimistic. Let love flow. Hugs
