Take Care of Your Mother

My father left for the war when I was only ten. Before he left, he said, “Take care of your mother.” I didn’t know if I’d ever see him again, So, I wanted to make him proud of me, like no other. For several years, we wrote each other lots of letters. It was sad to read about the horrible things he saw. He always wrote, “I love you,” and I would feel better, But I still felt bad that he dealt with war in the raw. He knew that I had been lonely, since Mother had passed And that it was rough on me to raise my brother. But when he returned home, his love for me didn’t last. He found out that I really HAD taken care of my mother.
