Sweethearts

How I miss what I never had
Long hot kisses kinetic cranberry flavored
As I struggle with my need to breathe
Every breath in and out for you
The deepest fuzzy feelings ferment
In every fiber of my body my soul
We are so close yet so far
Long distance love challenges so unique
Yet we climb each mountain peak
Standing victorious in each others heart
Violet veins pumping the same goals
Hopes purple passion and old fashioned needs
I’m unable to flee from you
Because you are inside of me
It’s pleasant and peaceful
How you make love to my mind
With only your words so kind
And I am grateful for whatever
Way we connect be it chats
Or email or internet
We have only a moment to blink
And find reasons why we think
Time is on our side
And we surf it like ocean tide
I think we are very special
And as you say
The heart wants what it wants
So it’s not really a problem
Being apart when we are an island
Intellectually connected and destined
We have beat the odds
And now we can be sweethearts
For as long as blessed by God

I used to labor at writing love because I thought the emotions were messy and not poesy worth, but you have gently and delicately expressed yourself in verse. Very touching

Thanks for the context. It makes the poem all the more resonant. I don't think any one here should call themselves average, its a craft that we hone and pursue its unachievable zenith

Marugu unfortunately I am an average poet who only writes half decent if it is about my passions which are music poetry and love! I wish I were better but I do get excited when a poem resonates with people like you, Richard and others! It truly is inspiring encouraging and lets me know I am not alone. Thank you for that!

I so relate to this piece. My sweetie and I met in Mexico. We were from two different partsvof Canada. So a big part of our getting to know each other was from 4000 Kms away. This was before inexpensive phone plans. $10,000.00 in long distance calls later we were united. Now 31 years have passed and I am still madly in love with her.

Hi Karen, Your poem beautifully articulates the longing and fulfillment found in a love transcending physical boundaries, celebrating a bond that grows and thrives on emotional and intellectual connection, undeterred by distance. Cheers, Don

Awwn this touched my heart dear talented soul, and i think i can resonate with your words too. And i must highlight also your use of alliterations and adjectives and how descriptively youv expressed here truly blew me away! I especially love the island line! So creative this is and so heartfelt! “ I’m unable to flee from you Because you are inside of me It’s pleasant and peaceful How you make love to my mind With only your words so kind” that hits the deepest! A fave this is for me

Dear Karen, What a wonderful, tender, heartfelt expression of longing and connection! The emotions woven throughout the lines are very touching. Your portrayal of long-distance love, fraught with challenges yet filled with unwavering devotion, is both poignant and beautiful. It's evident that your bond transcends physical distance, anchored in a stunning intellectual and emotional connection. Such a touching piece of poetry. - Blessings, Daniel

Aww this is so sweet... Your poem beautifully captures the struggle of balancing the need for intimacy with the challenges of distance. The lines "As I struggle with my need to breathe / Every breath in and out for you" poignantly depict the all-encompassing nature of love and devotion, even when separated by miles... You write this theme very well..
