SURVEYOR OF THE STORM Today’s early afternoon is somber-gray. Red, white, blue, cherry willow, stars. A single lightning bolt, in downward zigzag, striking, alongside the bark of a crépe myrtle.* Loose leaves sliding down oil-slicked street. Goodnight skies rise into the light. Verve-quake of thunder. I saw clouds rise and fall, flutter by. Chimes and metallic owls, mirrors and bells keep those pesky ‘peckers at bay, but will they survive if the wind takes them away? (They did) Yesterday’s moonlight will be drenched behind midnight-clouds. Spectacular sun-days orchestrate Spring hues as wings splish-splosh in flooding bath tubs. Well, I imagine so… as faith remains. 3/25/2021 Non-rhyming couplets *striking used as adj. here

Kim your poems are truly articulate and worthy of all the comments and praise you receive. I'm back on soup, Elias had a major op and then he had a recuperation process at home. Thank God all went well and he is great. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Ahh!! A very descriptive and creative work you have been in this one. One day the bird bath was coated with solid yellow and then it poured rain and the yellow was washed away even from the bird bath. They said thank you by coming by and taking a bath and drinking. Sara

A fabulous description of the storm, Kim! I especially enjoyed the line "Yesterday’s moonlight will be drenched behind midnight-clouds." Great visuals throughout. If for a contest, best wishes for a win! Hugs, Carolyn

Excellent Kim. o be so scared of storms because of the lightening. She would get up on the bed or the couch and draw her feet under her. She said if it was going to strike her it would first have to find her. lol Great write. God Bless, JB

That is real fear. Last night woke me up. Since we were under a tornado watch, I was on alert.

You discribed storms well Kim, saw some brilliant ones a few years ago in Florida. Hope your weekend goes well. Tom

I bet! The best storm I saw was over a Durham Bull’s field. It was like a laser light show! Then the crowd started yelling,”chicken...chicken.” We were shrugging our shoulders. Out runs a person dressed as a chicken. Too funny, along with the famous bull that snorts at home runs.
