Summer's Last Rays
The blushing rose can no longer linger
As summer wanes in its glow
Autumn's chill, and winter's icy fingers
Will bring those shivering days we'll come to know,
And perhaps a sprinkling of light snow
The once abundant harvest of sunshine
diminishes with shortening days
as my thoughts are consigned
to butterflies frolicking in summer's last rays
Sweet summer memories will never be lost
But will be retrieved, when morning dew
turns to hoar frost,
and when cold wet days of gray replace skies of blue.
