Notes About The Poem

Summer Love Sonnet

What's not to love about a summer day?
Kissed by the sun, the warmth of its embrace
To feel the cleanse from sweat at work and play
While honeysuckle breezes cool my face

With hillsides blanketed in purple vetch
Magenta morning glories and light blues
Imagine all the butterflies they fetch
A scene to romance any poet's muse

But when it gets too hot, I seek the shade
Barefoot in clover 'neath tall sycamores
Or take a watermelon down to wade
A spring fed creek, to cool, while I explore

That evening, in the swing, I watch fireflies
Then pray I wake to see one more sunrise

True poetry! Congrats on your well-deserved win -- and on painting the magic canvas of 'endless summer's' evanescence. Best wishes, Gershon

Beautiful, most beautiful. I want that watermelon as much as I want to imagine that you truly have spent time outside in your beautiful Arkansas as depicted in your sonnet. Would love to walk that creek barefooted just to because it is there and would be freeing. Enjoyed this ... CayCay

Danny, it can't be "almost always" like you said below. Surely it's at least only half and half?? You write too well to be getting almost always N/A's!!

NOT an indication of great writing, Danny, as you are one of the better poets on this site ... N/A's in your case would stand for "Never Average". Do not get discouraged, my friend!

No, believe it or not, I usually get NA's. My out of the box poetry doesn't fair well with sponsors. Thank you for dropping by, Andrea. It is always my pleasure:)
