Summer Idyll
She has been waiting in the wings
now, at last, it is her time to shine
slowly the bud opens to the mornings
sun, petals each reaching for sunshine
The glorious drone of the worker bees
as they rush from flower to flower
seeming to like, most of all, the lilies
basking in the sun, we take tea in the arbour
A blaze of startling colour in all the beds
picture perfect as we gaze in delight
the children, now tiring sit on the bedspreads
this summer's day they will remember in hindsight
