Summer Days

Pleasingly plentiful portions of Summer on ageing aching bones Laying prone on pumped up pillows in pools of delight Or under cooling fan breeze uncovered all night These are the days to remember in Winter With the doors and the windows all closed In front of the fireplace astare at its center Flickering flame with the embers exposed Thinking of sun coming through open windows With bird singing echoes on unmoving leaves The haze of the day in ever nodding noon Nothing to do and with all day so disposed Walking shirtless and barefoot in bee clover grass Treasuring moments that too soon will pass In measured leisure phase of ever plodding moon
