This is a great write, Carolyn. The LLAW is what is dividing our country. Any way you look at it. Something has to give. Very well done on this form. Congratulations on your 1st place win! love & Hugs, Charlie

2nd line, "insecurity" is what Americans feel when our President assures us the border wall in San Antonio is "working well". Unless Trump has ceded most of Texas back to Mexico, we should all be concerned Trump does not have a clue where to build his Vanity Wall! Keep them coming, Carolyn! Aloha! Rico

Both your poem and the accompanying cartoon show the stress which this situation is causing, Carolyn. I hope common sense prevails soon. Hugs // paul

Well said, a self created crisis by Trump, the shutdown is more risk to the borders at all points of entry than what he proposes to do.

On Saturday Trump offered to give the DACA dreamers three more years in the U.S. if Congress appropriated 5.7 billion for the way. Nancy Pelosi has rejected all compromises that include the Wall Trump claimed Mexico would pay for, including this latest. This is our nation's longest government shutdown.

High anxiety for the 800,000. So, your poem is spot on... Here's some food for thought, however. Perhaps, just perhaps, beyond the 800,000, beyond the poisonous, polarized 'leadership' of both parties, Mr. Trump has miraculously raised a real issue: If the border is not secure, if he isn't protecting Americans, then what is government for anyway?! I.e., isn't protecting citizens the #1 purpose of any government? And if that purpose can't be achieved, why does the government evenexist?! :) gw

Some TSA workers are among those not being paid, so the shutdown creates even more insecurity. We need protection in all ports of entry and history has shown that most terrorists fly into the US and drugs often enter through sea ports. My short poem was only expressing the financial hardship unpaid federal workers are facing now.

Even the small businesses these unpaid workers support are being affected by the shutdown.

There is no good reason to punish the very people, the tax payers, who pay for everyone in office by shutting down government. I agree Carolyn! Very well written! : ) xxoo

For tomorrow's holiday, various groups are trying to reopen some of the national parks that have been closed because of the shutdown. We have to be proactive in addressing concerns when government lets us down. Unfortunately, the workers who are no longer getting paid cannot do anything but hope for a resolution or find other jobs. And some are finding other jobs. This isn't going to end well. Thanks for reading, Connie

We're not being told anymore that Mexico will pay for the wall. I never believed they would; the president is either naive or overestimates his bargaining power. I'd prefer to invest the billions in our country's humanitarian needs. Thanks for reading, Joseph!

It's hard to watch the news without thinking of the many federal workers who actually received paychecks for zero dollars! When the president says they should "make adjustments," he demonstrates how little he relates to people who live paycheck-to-paycheck. It's insulting. Thanks for reading.

So true Carolyn..the powerful who make the call are not the ones suffering.
