Storm

Storm

Storm approaches with "wailing" winds
Fierce faced clouds "whoosh" across the sky
Lightning "crackles" then "snaps" and "pops"
Thunder "rumbles" with heart "pounding" "thuds."

Autumn leaves "scrape" across sidewalks
Then turn silver in torrent’s "rustle"
Windstorm "slams" into the trees
"Howling" "whispers" turns to "shivers"

Shutters "bang" in the "roaring" wind
Raindrops "sizzle" on dry earth
Downpours "splash" in growing puddles
Gutters "drip" – downspouts "gurgle."

Passing storm slows to a "trickle"
With "pitter-patters" of tiny raindrops
Water "drips" from leaves in clear "trickles"
Like a soothing fountain "burble."

Note: Am still having trouble with bold or underlining function so I put the onomatopoeia words in parenthesis.

Thank you so much ML! I have always loved standing at the window watching a storm come in, suddenly erupt and then leave! Thank you for sharing this magnificent spectacle of nature with me! Blessings.

Exquisitely crafted write Sam - this has some powerful onomatopoeia - Greek word meaning the sound one hears in their mind of something you are describing. Awesome poetry my friend and good luck in the contest. Being half Greek and knowing a bit about mythology chose a myth to write about in this contest. Posting it tonight. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Thank you my friend! This was fun! Only recently we had a huge storm - four inches of rain in one day! It was wonderful inspiration for this write. Loved your Medusa poem! Always fun to include Greek mythology. Though written thousands of years ago, the stories still have relevance for us in their humanity - seeking to explore and explain this world. I especially love the mythology found in constellations! Sending you hugs and many blessings!

Who knew there were so many onomatopoeia words in a blustery storm? I'd rather be inside enjoying the "crackle" of the fireplace. Another fun read from the magnificent pen of Sam Kauffman! Well done, friend ~ John

Hi John! Could not agree with you more! If I am not outside splashing through puddles (northwest habits die hard) I love watching a storm from in front of a "crackling" fire with a hot beverage, wrapped up in a cozy blanket! Thank you so much for your absolutely wonderful message. You continue to inspire and motivate me dear friend. You are truly a blessing! And, yes, it was fun finding all of those onomatopoeia words - stomping and splashing through the Thesaurus! That last storm was amazing inspiration. Hope you fared well. We discovered two very small, easily repaired, leaks in a gutter! Blessings dear friend.
