Crying Inside

Love ought to be passionate and on fire,
fueling everlasting bonds of trust.
And not the promises of a liar
distorting love in the pursuit of lust.
Feeling the tears building behind your eyes,
your spirit sinks, scuttled by betrayal.
For realizing what each drop implies,
dreams collapse, and anxieties prevail.
An unbearable pain pierces your heart
as truth dispels the illusion of lies.
And as doubt and mistrust tear it apart,
depression dismantles trust till it dies.
The broken promises you've endured
were rife with outright deceit and pretense.
And juvenile dreams that never matured
spurred a catastrophic set of events.
Like a river, destiny sets love's course,
but you decide who will swim by your side.
And when fate veers and heads towards remorse,
change direction, though you're crying inside.
