Stone Baked
Stone baked, these brownstone tenements
reflecting Summer’s scorching sun
absorbing humidity’s hubris
laying wilt in heat’s distortion.
Front stoops a refuge for the old
a broken pipe respite for the young
beach day of inner city slum
children of the moment seizing fun
Laughter splashing in life’s stream
draws to its shores the joy of youthful now
hot sidewalk’s dancing children jubilee
a gift to fill a stoic parent’s dream
Stone baked, these brownstone tenements
at eve release a humid haze
offering but a dismal, dampened sleep
sun setting on the city kids “street-beach”.
