Listen to poem:
"A gentle pat and soft voice comforts even the frighten beast." Quote_ by poet How many children grow up thinking that abuse is the norm, never complaining of what goes on in their home. Like a 3-year-old boy being tossed and kicked repeatedly down a hallway of their building. The abuse was caught on a doorbell camera. Her excuse was he, “wasn’t listening.” blessed be the flower charms those with its grace and scent moral nourishment I was brought up extremely old fashioned. You committed a sin, you are accountable. I believe God lives within me. With his hand on mine and wisdom He leads me in the right path. learn to love yourself forgiveness is thy freedom you savor honey I believe in loving people. I try very hard to respect those around. Everyone has their boundaries what they have, what they choose, and what they wish to do. Eve, your poem shines light on child abuse which is devastating and sad. I am a counselor by trade and work with trauma and breaks my heart. You offer a message of hope and affirmation. You remind us that we are all capable of love and forgiveness and should strive to accept ourselves and others for who we are. Your words are a beacon of light in a dark and hopeless world. - Blessings Daniel

My Catholic pastor would appreciate this special poem. Your lines are so meaningful and important. As a former kindergarten teacher, I have sadly had to call The Department of Children and Families twice. I especially enjoyed your 2nd and 5th stanzas and your words, " Moral nourishment" What a lovely write.

I'm always saddened at a soul level when I hear about or witness a child being abused by some impatient or irrational 'adult.' Doesn't bode well with me. I share your beliefs, believing God dwells in me. Anyway, best wishes with the contest. Great job, Sara

I was raised in a similar way, Eve. Respect for others, whether alike or different from yourself, we were all created by the same God. We are all brothers and sisters. May our actions always come from Love. great poetry, Eve, a FAV for my list. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

Forgiveness is freedom, something i strongly believe in, sometimes we forgive not because someone else asked for it but because we deserve to let that go, to move forward, and i love how different your take on this prompt is. I have been thinkin of writing on this too, but iv never really heard of stoicism before. Pleasure reading this haibun! Goodluck in the contest
